Perth WA
I'm off to Perth in October, any advice on things to do out there, places to eat etc, places to watch the Hammers?
Staying in Scarborough right on the beach so I'm told. Never been to Oz and cannot bloody wait.
My only fear is of snakes, hopefully I don't see any.

I have lived in Scarborough right by the beach for the last 6 years, let me know if you want to have a beer and see a game there's a few hammers here we catch up and watch a game here and there, it's a good place Scarborough I didn't think I would stay 6 years!

They're in the middle of redeveloping the Scarbs foreshore but all the pubs and restaurants are done. The Crafty Squire is good for a pint. There's heaps of good restaurants and cafes in Scarbs too now.

Like someone else said, games can be watched at the Charles Hotel in North Perth with the supporters club.

If you want a cheap Asian nosh up, William St in Northbridge is the place.

Definitely get over to Rottnest and down to Margaret River if you have time.

Perth in October and November is as close as you get to paradise mate, but I'm a bit biased because it's my home!

Whomail me if you want any other info.

Steve. I Iived in WA for 35 years before moving to NZ. Highgate has a great pub/cafe strip along Beaufort St. Try the Queens hotel and the Flying Scotsman. If you have time, head down South to Margaret River, Dunsborough, Augusta and especially Albany, where I lived for 7 years. The Earl of Spencer pub is one of the best. Albany is the tiger snake capital of the world, though, and October is about when they start getting a bit feisty.

Perth in October will be as windy as fuck, btw.

The Pommie bastards tend to congregate in the far northern suburbs up around Quinn's Rock or Joondalup or south of Fremantle down in Rockingham. Avoid
If you are there for a while it's definitely worth taking a trip down to Margaret River especially if you are into surfing, wine & food.

Re: Perth WA
Not sure there are many snakes but the sharks have got a bit feral.
Scarborough can be a bit backpacker unless you are staying in the Rendevous (think that's what it's called ... the big tower that used to be Observation City when Alan Bond owned it).
They are supposed to be redeveloping it but not sure what the state of play is.
Cottesloe is nice beach with some nice cafes and the Ocean Beach Hotel if you fancy a beer & some decent food.

Fremantle is worth hanging out in & checking out the Sail & Anchor and Norfolk pubs.
I'd also check out Leederville which has some decent places to eat especially a tapas place whose name escapes ..: Duende maybe.

If anyone IS going out in Dec 17 for the Ashes test it is probably likely to be in the new 60,000 seat Perth Stadium on the other side of the river from the WACA next to the casino.
The WACA is being reduced to a smaller venue for Tests against countries other than England , India & SA plus Sheffield Shield games for WA.

Stayed at Scarborough the first time I went to Perth. Not the nicest to be honest, Cottesloe is nicer.

Rottnest Island is a must, as has already been mentioned. Stunning place. Hire some bikes, grab your snorkel and head for Little Armstrong Bay.

Again rottnest just to kick the quokkers. Margaret river and Esperence is worth a look.
If you have the opportunity go to Broome still on the west coast but a short flight. Mate it's a great part of the world.

......and Italians. During a grade game we'd watch a little old lady dressed in black walk across the pitch and we'd play the game 'guess the nationality".

Usually they never made it all the way because they got eaten by the flies swarming around us cricketers.

On the other hand, it's the furthest bit from NZ.

Re: Perth WA
Put it this way, if you go in the sea, a shark will kill you, if you go in a river, a croc will kill you, and if you stay on land, there are so many poisonous snakes and spiders, Australians, South Africans and English people, you'll want to go in the water.

Re: Perth WA
I have lived there for 34 years but am currently in Zurich, I still have my house there so I know you will have a good time. If you are staying with people and they have a car fine if not hire one. I helped run the WA West Ham supporters club for 15 years and I know they meet up at either the Casino or the Charles pub North Perth depending on KO time. They now have a face book page if you are into that which will put you in touch with other Hammers - Max runs it

Places to go - Northbridge and Fremantle for drinking and eating. If you have time head down to Margaret River region for fantastic wineries, beaches and scenery.
